Georgia A weekend in Georgia

4 days

Fancy a weekend in the land of wine? Why not? You will experience adventures in Tbilisi, the present day capital of Georgia and in Mskheta, Georgia's former capital as well as the hospitality of a Georgian wine maker with wine tasting and a delicious dinner at an authentic Georgian restaurant.

Day 1

Arrival in Tbilisi. Transfer to the hotel.

Day 2

Right after breakfast we will take a tour of Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. We will see Rustaveli Avenue, Freedom and Meidani Squares, and the charming Shardeni Street. We will have the chance to see the magnificent Sameba (Holy Trinity) Cathedral, the largest Orthodox church in Georgia. We will then stop by Abanotubani, an area filled with sulphur baths that is located near the old church of Metekhi. We will take a cable car to go to enjoy the view from the ancient Narikala fortress which has proudly stood here since the 4th century A.D. Afterwards, we descend to the picturesque waterfall, located close to ancient baths.

Then you will have a chance to explore Tbilisi on your own as well as find some lovely place to stop for lunch.

In the evening we will celebrate your arrival in Georgia at one of the Georgian restaurants where you will encounter the famous Georgian cuisine and traditional music and dance. We hope you will enjoy some traditional Georgian food like khachapuri, mtsvadi (barbequed meat), a variety of salads, appetizers and wine.

Overnight stay will be in Tbilisi.

Day 3

Breakfast at the hotel.

Today we will visit Mtskheta, the former capital of Georgia. We will stop by the Orthodox cathedral called Svetitskhoveli. Being the main cathedral in Georgia, Svetitskhoveli is also the spiritual symbol of the country where, for many centuries, grand coronations and royal funerals were held.

Then we will drive up to Jvari Monastery. From there you can admire the beautiful scenery of the two rivers Aragvi and Kura joining together. Jvari was the first site in Georgia chosen for protection by UNESCO and is considered to be one of the most remarkable masterpieces of Georgian medieval architecture. It was founded in 545 A.D. Locals say that if you have not visited Mtskheta, you may as well not have been to Georgia at all.

After Jvari we will pay a visit to a Georgian wine-maker who makes organic wine at his winery. We will explore his wine cellar, in Georgian called a "marani", as well as learn about conventions of wine making in Georgia, taste wine and have lunch served in a traditional and cosy Georgian hall with a fireplace.

Then we will return to Tbilisi and you will have a free evening to explore Tbilisi and discover more of the delicious food Georgia has to offer for dinner.
